Tripy Mobility has its sights on one million users by the end of the year.

The Turkish shared micromobility operator currently serves a population of 7.5 million people. It aims to quadruple its reach to 30 million before the year is out.

It’s an ambitious target for the increasingly competitive field of shared micromobility. But having racked up approximately 150,000 new users in the last six months alone, Tripy is confident about the task at hand.

So, Zag wants to know. Who is Tripy?

The business profile

Tripy Mobility isn’t your ‘traditional’ kind of shared micromobility operator.

The Turkish company offers a complete end-to-end service of bike share, from the e-bikes and parking stations, to an in-house developed software ecosystem that manages them.

Tripy currently operates a fleet of approximately 4,000 e-bikes across three major Turkish cities: Izmir, Sakarya, and Eskişehir’s Tepebaşı district. In Izmir, it manages 2,000 vehicles and in both Sakarya and Tepebaşı, the provider manages a fleet of 1,000 vehicles. These all operate under a fully free-floating model, supported by virtual parking stations strategically placed throughout the cities.

According to CEO Dr. Ali Onuralp Ünal, what sets Tripy apart from other shared micromobility operators is its exclusive 10-year contracts in its markets today – making Tripy a sole shared e-bike operator in Izmir, Sakarya, and Eskişehir’s Tepebaşı district.

“These long-term contracts demonstrate the high level of trust and confidence local governments place in Tripy’s operational excellence, technological capabilities, and commitment to sustainable urban mobility,” Ali tells Zag Daily.

What’s driving this confidence?

Ali believes that Tripy’s end-to-end control of its service is what drives the operator to successfully secure these 10-year contracts.

Its fully-in-house developed software ecosystem is designed for three core user groups: riders, fleet teams and administrators (administrators being municipalities or corporate clients).

For riders, the mobile app includes real-time vehicle location, QR-based unlocking, trip tracking, balance and payment management, referral campaigns, and CO₂ savings tracking.

With Tripy’s operational platform, fleet teams can leverage AI to monitor battery levels, vehicle health, and maintenance needs to ensure proactive and responsive field operations.

But, for Ali, the key to nationwide confidence is what Tripy’s software offers the cities themselves. Tripy’s admin panel gives municipalities a whole suite of data points –  such as live dashboards, usage heatmaps, trip data, vehicle distribution, and sustainability metrics – enabling them to make data-driven decisions and monitor the service performance transparently.

“These three platforms are fully integrated, forming a closed-loop micromobility ecosystem. This structure not only ensures scalability and operational efficiency but also allows municipalities to align Tripy’s services with their Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans and broader transportation strategies,” Ali says.

“By connecting users, fleet teams and cities through one cohesive system, Tripy delivers both high-quality user experiences and strategic value to its partners.”

Reeling in investors

Tripy is not only garnering support from cities, but from investors too.

The operator credits its credibility to the backing of Founding Partner and majority shareholder MIA Teknoloji A.Ş – a renowned Turkish technology company.

“MIA Teknoloji A.Ş’ involvement supports Tripy’s positioning not just as a service provider, but as a long-term, impact-driven mobility partner for cities,” says Ali.

Tripy’s investor roots are reeling in more investment, with the operator having recently secured fresh funding from Turkish impact fund Fark Labs to support its strive towards becoming a global brand. Whilst the sum cannot be disclosed, Ali flags the significance of the investment not only for the capital it offers, but for Fark Labs’ strategic value and mobility expertise set to scale Tripy’s growth.

“Tripy is an attractive investment opportunity due to its strong and accelerating growth trajectory both within Turkey and in international markets like the UK,” Ali says. “With a proven track record of rapid user acquisition and successful municipal partnerships, Tripy offers a scalable and sustainable business model.”

Ali attributes the key drivers of Tripy’s growth to its strong social media presence and continuous community engagement, a focus on user experience and responsive customer support – all leading to a “high level of user satisfaction which encourages repeat use and organic word-of-mouth.”

This has led to an increase in rider revenue – contributing to a positive EBITDA for Tripy in 2024 and a 2.5x increase in total revenue compared with the previous year.

What’s also attracting investment is Tripy’s proprietary technology which powers not only its own operations but serves as a white-label solution for other shared micromobility operators in other municipalities.

“This unique combination of operational excellence, market leadership, and technology innovation makes Tripy a compelling proposition for investors looking to tap into the future of sustainable urban mobility.”

Going corporate

Beyond the millions of residents and tourists using Tripy’s e-bikes for leisure, the operator offers its own corporate bike membership for businesses.

“In this model, companies make a monthly payment on behalf of their employees and in return employees receive a dedicated balance in their Tripy accounts.

“This balance allows employees to benefit from up to five times more advantageous rates compared to standard tariffs, making daily commuting more affordable. Employees can use the service to travel from any point in the city to their workplaces, ensuring convenience and flexibility for last-mile commuting.”

Using this membership, companies can reduce their corporate footprint and improve their ESG reporting, while demonstrating the nation’s corporate commitment to sustainable mobility.

What’s next

Tripy has ambitious growth plans for the upcoming year.

As nationwide confidence grows, the operator is continuing to cement its presence in Turkey and is pursuing licences in five more major cities including Istanbul and Ankara. If successful, this would bring Tripy’s reach to 40 million people across Turkey.

After securing investment from Fark Labs, Tripy exclusively announced its plans to enter the UK market and has received bike share accreditation from shared transport CoMoUK. Last month, Ali told Zag that the operator is currently applying for tenders in and around London, and has also started discussions in other UK cities.

“The UK’s well-defined and supportive regulatory environment for micromobility makes it an ideal market for Tripy’s entry. We are exploring opportunities in multiple cities, aiming to deploy both station-based and free-floating solutions, backed by our proprietary software and operational expertise.

“Our goal is to launch our first UK operations within the next year, establishing Tripy as a competitive, compliant, and innovation-driven player in the UK and broader European micromobility market.”
