Luna Systems has partnered with electronic component company Codico and tech company JMO to design an infotainment solution for two-wheelers.

The ‘Smart Cluster’ combines front and rear advanced rider-assistance systems (ARAS) with post-ride analytics to promote safer riding habits.

It’s set to launch at next month’s international two-wheeler exhibition – EICMA 2024, and later exhibit at Electronica 2024.

“With two-wheeler accident rates continuing to climb, there is an urgent need for innovation in this space,” Luna Systems CEO Andrew Fleury told Zag Daily. “Step into any modern car and you are immediately protected by all the benefits of different types of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) technology including computer vision, but innovation for two-wheelers and bikes has been comparatively slow.

“That is now quickly changing and the pressure is mounting for manufacturers worldwide to enhance development in this area.”

Made from automotive grade materials, the Smart Cluster includes two vibration resistant cameras and a high-resolution 10.25-inch touch screen display. A real-time operating system displays the speedometer, electric battery health and status, and brake and indicator status.

Luna’s ARAS technology uses the Smart Cluster’s image signal processor and computer vision engine to deliver in-ride warnings. The infotainment solution features headway monitoring, forward collision warnings, road surface detection, pedestrian detection and AI Reverse Blind Spot Detection for its front-facing use cases, and proximity alerts as a rear-facing feature.

As part of the post-ride analytics, each ride can be scored according to safety and an AI Rider Safety Coach can be built into the manufacturer’s customer smartphone app as an API.

The Smart Cluster uses a chip solution from Qualcomm, a partner of Codico, which includes graphics, computing, API, cellular and wireless capabilities.

Luna, JMO and Codico will work with two-wheeler manufacturers to develop products based on the Smart Cluster, and the solution will be available globally.
