The Regulatory Sweet Spot: Bolt and Zag to Host London event

Zag Daily is proud to announce that we have partnered with global mobility giant Bolt to run an exclusive event in London on 03 October.

The event will address one central question – what is the sweet spot for micromobility regulation in Europe?

Micromobility has grown rapidly across the region becoming increasingly integrated with public transport networks and creating attractive alternatives to car use. However, the regulatory picture is still far from clear. Some European cities run open markets, some run authorisation systems with flexible caps and others have formal tender processes.

Four panellists will seek to carve out what is the right regulatory balance for long-term consumer adoption of e-scooters and e-bikes. The speakers are:

  • Karen Vancluysen, Secretary General, POLIS
  • Tom Hardie, Head of E-scooter Trials at the UK’s Department for Transport
  • Stijn Vandeweyer, Senior Director Government & Public Services at Deloitte
  • Tom Nutley, Chief Revenue Officer, Urban Sharing

The event will run from 18:00 – 21:30 on October 3rd in Old Street and will feature a Keynote from Haya, the expert panel session, followed by networking and canapés.

“Shared scooters and e-bikes are now playing a key role in wider transport networks across Europe, but we believe that to drive continued mode shift for a relatively ‘new’ mode of transport it’s important to focus on affordability for consumers,” said Bolt’s Director of Public Policy and Licensing Haya Verwoord-Douidri. “We look forward to discussing how regulation can best achieve this with some of the leading figures in our industry.”

The event follows a major Deloitte study, commissioned by Bolt, analysing the merits of different e-scooter schemes across 155 European cities, which found that flexible regulations result in more affordable pricing and higher adoption from consumers. This mobility-focused evening will seek to build on these findings to help micromobility legislation keep pace with the evolving landscape.

Commenting on the partnership, Zag Daily Co-founder Richard Woods, said: “A recent NACTO report in the US described shared micromobility as reaching an ‘inflection point’ and we couldn’t agree more. That’s why our London event, focusing as it does on the sweet spot for city and operator collaboration is so timely. Shared micromobility is an asset and finding the operational sweet spot is key to its long-term viability as well to the wider social and sustainability benefits that shared mobility brings.”

Zag Daily will curate the content before, during and after the event.
