The campaign seeks to present what is at stake for the French capital if shared e-scooters were to be banned.
Titled – ‘Paris without e-scooters is …’ – the campaign visuals then complete the end of this sentence with different scenarios. One reads ‘Paris without e-scooters is more cars’ while another says ‘Paris without e-scooters is more people in the subway’.
With more than 18 million journeys made in 2022, and an average of 400,000 unique users each month, shared scooters are an integral part of the capital’s mobility mix for many Parisians.
The operators argue that banning e-scooters could cause Parisians to turn to more polluting modes of transport and create more crowded public transportation.
This comes 500 days before the Olympics where more than 10 million travellers are expected to descend on the capital.
Operators also say that 800 jobs would be directly threatened by a shutdown of the shared electric scooter system, including mechanics, drivers, patrols and technicians.
In addition, considering that Paris has been a pioneer in sustainable mobility, banning e-scooters could damage the city’s reputation as a leader in environmentally friendly transportation, while other major cities such as Oslo, Berlin and Copenhagen, continue to innovate with their micromobility programmes.
“The aim is to project Parisians into a Paris without e-scooters to highlight by contrast the value add of this means of transport,” Erwann Le Page, Tier’s Public Policy Director, told Zag Daily.
“A ban would be a step backwards, 500 days before the Olympic Games. This is why we are calling on all Parisians to vote on April 2 in favour of shared e-scooters!”
The campaign will be displayed on billboards, in digital format and on social media.
