During the 2024 Paris Olympics, the city was teeming with energy.
Visitors from across the globe filled the streets, weaving between iconic landmarks and Olympic venues. With traffic gridlocked and public transportation bursting at capacity, another transport solution offered to take over the streets – shared e-scooters and e-bikes.
Segway’s vehicles, operated by TIER-Dott which is now rebranded as Dott, provided a quick, eco-friendly alternative, allowing riders to glide past traffic and experience the city in a brand new way.
By the time the Games drew to a close, Segway and Dott helped facilitate over one million rides, making micromobility an essential part of the Olympic experience. Both tourists and locals found freedom in zipping through the city’s iconic boulevards, bypassing traffic and capturing moments of effortless movement against the backdrop of Paris’ famous landmarks. And the seamless mobility provided by these vehicles proved that micromobility is not just convenient but essential in high-demand, fast-paced environments.
Segway is not only optimistic about the shared micromobility market’s post-pandemic recovery and growth, but also envisions micromobility to be a key ingredient of future transportation systems in cities across the world.
According to McKinsey’s recent “Upper Case” scenario, where cities embrace micromobility as a key component of the future transportation landscape and boost their investments in the sector, the number of shared micromobility trips is expected to surge to 400 million by 2030 and 540 million by 2035 — a fourfold increase compared to 2023.
A vehicle solution for diverse needs
While the Paris Olympics showcased Segway’s ability to deliver at scale during one of the world’s biggest events, it is only a glimpse of the company’s broader impact.
Since 2018, Segway has partnered with over 240 operators to deploy and manage vehicles in more than 500 cities worldwide, revolutionising urban transportation in some of the most challenging and diverse environments across the globe.
To date, Segway has delivered more than two million shared electric scooters, e-bikes, and electric mopeds to operators around the world. Our diverse vehicle solution allows operators to cater to specific needs across a range of environments – whether they’re managing compact scooter fleets in densely populated urban centres or deploying long-range e-bikes for commuters.
This variety equips operators to adapt to different markets and user preferences, ensuring they can offer the right mobility solutions for every situation. Segway’s global scale means we gather a wealth of feedback, enabling us to continuously refine our products and ensure they meet the highest quality standards.
Navigating regulatory complexities
Operating in major international cities requires complying with rigorous legal and regulatory frameworks, ensuring public safety and operational efficiency. Segway’s extensive experience in providing vehicle solutions which navigate these complex environments means we understand how to help operators thrive within them, adhering to the rules and expectations set by local authorities while offering reliable solutions to millions of riders.
In addition to global urban clusters, Segway has been collaborating with operators to test micromobility solutions in designated zones and industrial parks since the early days of shared micromobility – which serve as important testing grounds for shared transportation solutions. With over seven years of experience in controlled environments and highly regulated markets, we offer operators tailored solutions that address the unique demands of each setting. This versatility sets us apart as a global leader capable of thriving in a wide range of operational conditions.
Setting operators up for success
At the heart of Segway’s approach is to empower operators by providing best-in-class vehicle and service solutions.
Our vehicles are designed not only for durability and performance but also with the operator in mind, helping them minimise downtime and reduce their total cost of ownership (TCO). From product design, to operational support and after-sales service, Segway’s focus remains on providing the best possible solutions for operators and their customers.
The Segway Care Commercial program, which includes a comprehensive one-year warranty, reflects our commitment to quality. We listen closely to the needs of our operators, using their feedback to improve product reliability, safety, and efficiency. Through this collaborative approach, we help operators optimise their fleets, improve their service offerings, and meet the growing demand for shared micromobility solutions.
An unwavering focus on core strengths
Segway is a specialised vehicle solutions provider, and this focus has been instrumental to our success. We remain dedicated to delivering the best micromobility vehicles on the market. This specialisation allows us to channel our expertise into perfecting our products, ensuring that they are robust, reliable, and built to meet the specific needs of operators across a variety of environments.
Our focused approach also positions us to excel in both highly regulated markets. Whether our clients are deploying fleets in complex urban environments, campuses, or industrial parks, they can count on us to deliver solutions that are tailored to their needs and optimised for long-term success.
As the micromobility industry continues to evolve, Segway aims to be actively involved in shaping its future. We’re working closely with industry stakeholders to influence and adapt to emerging standards, ensuring our solutions meet the highest levels of safety and sustainability.
