TIER to arrive in Israel

Shared micromobility operator TIER has announced it will start offering its services in Israel from June.

Initially, a fleet of e-scooters will be made available in the city of Tel Aviv. TIER will then consider whether to offer its e-bikes and mopeds in the future.

In a pre-launch promotion, those that download the app now will get three vehicle unlocks and 30 minutes of riding time for free by using the code LETSGOTLV.

Shared e-scooters have been around in Tel Aviv since 2018 and are proving a popular mode of transportation for commuters. The firm is expecting Israel’s market for shared vehicles to continue to grow as they provide a solution to the traffic congestion issue in the region.

Benjamin Bell, Director of Public Policy for Northern Europe and New Markets at TIER, told Zag Daily: “Israel is a beacon of technology, innovation and sunshine so it is no surprise that it is home to a vibrant micromobility scene.

“TIER has already built a thriving business across much of the world. Now we are excited to help change mobility for good in Tel Aviv and beyond with our safe, responsible service.”

The company already operates in several cities in the Middle East, which include Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ruwais, Riyadh, Doha and Manama.

Alexander Souter, TIER’s Vice President for South-West Europe and the Middle East, said the company “offers a model of micromobility operations that Israel has yet to see in terms of safety and sustainability for both users and non-users.

“I am confident that we will be able to work with municipalities and other stakeholders throughout Israel to offer our services in a coordinated, regulated and efficient manner.”

Tel Aviv maintains strict e-scooter regulations, which includes mandatory helmet usage, a minimum rider age limit of 18 and a municipal brigade stationed across the city to patrol parking behaviour.

We reported that Dott has also recently launched a fleet of 1,800 e-scooters in the city as it expands outside of Europe for the first time.
