The second round of the inaugural eSkootr Championship (eSC) will take place in Sion, Switzerland on 27 to 28 May, it was confirmed today.

This brand new category of sport is accessible to all and will promote the use of sustainable micromobility transportation in urban areas.

The race in Sion will follow the championship opener in London on 13 to 14 May.

In the heart of the Swiss city, 30 riders will race on 100km/h electric scooters around a purpose-built track.

The event will coincide with the International Transition Festival to be held in Sion from 24 to 29 May, which celebrates the transition towards a more sustainable society.

This therefore makes the festival the perfect backdrop for an eSC event with workshops, displays and presentations showcasing different ways of achieving greener, safer and more liveable cities.

“We’re delighted to announce Sion as an eSC host city partner, providing a fantastic destination for one of the very first rounds of our brand-new sport,” said Hrag Sarkissian, eSkootr Championship Co-founder and CEO.

“Both the city and the Canton of Valais have a deep commitment to pursuing better, more sustainable solutions for their citizens, and an appreciation for the real-world relevance eSC brings, as they seek to address the implications of a rapidly changing mobility landscape.”

Further racing locations in France, Italy, Spain and the USA will soon be revealed by the eSC.

Philippe Varone, President of the City of Sion, commented: “With its autonomous shuttles, the City of Sion has been a pioneer in the field of electric mobility. This international festival and its e-scooter world championship are in line with this commitment and will be a great showcase for popularising electromobility with the public.”
