Rides on shared e-scooters in London increased by almost ten per cent in the first week since the expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone.
The three operators in the capital – Lime, TIER, and Dott – reported the spike in journeys when compared with the previous week.
Additionally, the providers saw a rise of up to 30 per cent in new riders compared to the week prior, with Lime reporting an additional 5,000 e-bike trips.
The area covered by the zone was expanded from central London up to the North Circular and South Circular Roads, and now covers 3.8 million people.
The expansion has made the ULEZ 18 times larger and is expected to reduce emissions from road transport by 30 per cent across London this year.
Lime, TIER, and, Dott welcomed the expansion of the ULEZ when speaking to Zag Daily last month, and it appears to be having the desired effect already.
“The expansion of the ULEZ zone will make London a healthier and happier place to live,” Lime, TIER, and Dott said in a joint statement.
“We are proud to be offering safe and sustainable transport alternatives that can keep Londoners moving whilst simultaneously fighting congestion and air pollution in this great city.”
