Segway has announced that TÜV SÜD, a leading international testing and certification organisation, has awarded the company the first-ever Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Verification Statement for its S90L, Max Plus X (SNSC 2.4), and SNSC2.3.3 electric scooter models.
This verification statement confirms that these e-scooter models meet the ISO 14040 and 14044 international standards for life cycle assessment.
As part of the assessment process, TÜV SÜD’s technical experts assessed the environmental impact of the three e-scooter models, from raw material, to production and distribution stages.
The comprehensive evaluation covered 18 environmental impact categories, including global warming impact, water and energy consumption, and resource depletion.
It also examined the environmental impact of each lifecycle stage, key processes, and the carbon emissions contribution.
“Being awarded the first LCA verification statement by TÜV SÜD represents a critical milestone for Segway in its green and low-carbon efforts, and shows its corporate sustainability philosophy in real practice,” Michael Luan, Product Director of Commercial Mobility Business Division at Segway-Ninebot, told Zag Daily.
Carbon Footprint Assessment
A key factor in the Life Cycle Assessment is the Carbon Footprint Assessment results of each e-scooter model.
The total carbon emissions from the stages of raw material to production and distribution reveal that the S90L, SNSC 2.4, and SNSC2.3.3 e-scooter models are 353.06 kg CO2eq, 324.47 kg CO2eq, and 358.22 kg CO2eq, respectively.
“These findings are based on Segway’s commitment to transparency and traceability of data from the supply chains, and Segway is proud to be the first micromobility vehicle solution provider in the industry to conduct such a comprehensive carbon footprint assessment together with an accredited third-party,” said Luan.
“The carbon footprint results provide valuable insights into the environmental impact of our products. By sharing this information with operators and cities, they can better understand the life cycle impact of micromobility services and make informed decisions related to sustainability.”
During the evaluation, TÜV SÜD advised Segway how it could reduce the environmental impact throughout the supply chain in future production processes.
