TIER has today taken over the operations of Spin’s shared e-scooter scheme in Milton Keynes as part of the nationwide trials run by the Department for Transport.
The move follows TIER’s acquisition of the Ford-owned company earlier this year.
A 500-strong fleet of TIER’s latest e-scooter model will now be deployed. Riders can use the vehicles on 250km of traffic-free Redway routes as well as minor estate roads.
“With the takeover of e-scooter operations in Milton Keynes we have successfully completed the customer-facing transition from Spin to TIER in the UK,” TIER’s General Manager for UK and Ireland Georgia Yexley told Zag Daily.
“With a unified brand customers can access safe and sustainable transport options in more cities and towns across the UK, as well as our cutting-edge TIER e-scooters in Milton Keynes.”
Spin’s e-scooter fleet will now either be recycled as they come to the end of their lifecycle or redeployed in the firm’s wide range of cities and University markets in the USA.
The other operators in Milton Keynes are Lime with around 500 e-scooters, and Ginger with around 35 e-scooters.
Since Spin launched there in August 2020, Zag’s modelling shows that it has seen around 400,000 journeys, while Lime has seen around 600,0000 journeys. Ginger’s smaller fleet has done approximately 60,000 journeys.
TIER’s e-scooters feature a large front wheel, indicators, a wider foot plate, brighter lights, dual suspension, double kick-stand and dual drum brakes for stable riding on uneven surfaces.
