Advanced air mobility operator UrbanLink Air Mobility has partnered with Ferrovial Vertiports to develop a US vertiport network for eVTOL operations.
The collaboration with Ferrovial Vertiports, subsidiary of the global infrastructure company Ferrovial, will begin with its planned South Florida vertiport network which will be the launchpad for UrbanLink’s Lilium Jets.
UrbanLink announced its commitment to purchase 20 Lilium Jets in May, and it will work with Ferrovial Vertiports on the placement, operational planning, and facility design of vertiports to accelerate deployment of those jets and improve connectivity across the US.
“Vertiports will be designed to work within a network of airport fixed-base operators and other vertiports so the key is the commonality of charging systems, services provided and amenities available at each vertiport,” UrbanLink Air Mobility Founder and Chairman Ed Wegel told Zag Daily.
A fixed-base operator is an organisation that’s been granted permission by an airport to operate its services on the site.
UrbanLink is currently focused on offering eVTOL operations in South Florida, Los Angeles and California. The operator is planning to expand to further destinations and provide services for a range of socio-economic groups. These include heavily travelled scheduled routes, on-demand charter services for groups and special events, and medical evacuation services for hospitals and medical providers.
“We will also serve private label services for major corporations that need the travel time savings from use of our aircraft versus ground travel, as well as underserved communities that need to expand their own connectivity to the region.”
UrbanLink expects revenue services to begin in summer 2026 subject to all approvals from the Federal Aviation Administration and the US Department of Transport.
“It is important that eVTOL operators work with vertiport developers so that the vertiport design includes the practical aspects of operating aircrafts from the operator’s perspective.
“This partnership lets us work with Ferrovial on our specific aircraft requirements with the Lilium Jet as well as our practical experience of operating aircrafts with our top four operating executives having almost 140 years of combined airline experience.”
