Salzburg-based FlyNow Aviation has partnered with Savvy Charging Technologies to rapidly charge its eCopters as the company expands across the Middle East.

On-demand charging service provider Savvy Charging Technologies uses patented technology from the UK to rapidly charge electric vehicle batteries in the Middle East without the need for specialised infrastructure.

Compatible with e-mobility vehicles like electric cars, trucks, and boats, Savvy’s partnership with FlyNow Aviation marks its first entrance into the advanced air mobility sector.

“We live in the economy of now,” Savvy Charging Technologies CEO Muhammad Jamal told Zag Daily. “Nobody wants to be stuck in traffic. If you want something delivered, you do it over the app and it gets delivered. The same principle applies to vehicle charging – it needs to be a click away. In making that happen, our charging solution will globally transform advanced air mobility.”

Muhammad said it’s becoming a universal requirement for electric vehicles in the Middle East to be equipped with the Combined Charging System 2 (CCS2) connector, which is also used in Europe. This means that Savvy can use its same charging gun to plug into any electric vehicle featuring this connector.

“We can charge any battery at the same rate and speed, and it makes no difference if it’s a car, boat, truck or eCopter.”

FlyNow will run a pilot programme with its eCopters in Saudi Arabia next year. Once an airline operator is appointed and destinations pre-defined, Savvy can provide its charging technology onto the associated vertiports where the eCopter will be flying to and from. The airline operator can then use Savvy’s charging solution to charge the eCopter ready for its next flight. Savvy told us that it will be responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the technology.
