Aurora Flight Sciences and SkyGrid, both Boeing ventures, have joined forces to develop systems for the integration of uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) into shared airspace.
Aurora, an autonomous aircraft technology maker, is collaborating with SkyGrid, which provides advanced airspace management platforms. Together, they are developing a high-assurance system designed to deliver situational awareness, collision avoidance, and regulatory compliance for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
“The high-assurance system developed by SkyGrid and Aurora will enhance the integration of eVTOLs into shared airspace by ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operations. It leverages advanced technologies to provide precise situational awareness, collision avoidance, and airspace management in compliance with U.S. and European regulations.” said Matt Carstensen, programme manader at Aurora.
According to Matt Carstensen, the collaboration is essential to overcoming the complexities of making AAM a reality.
“Integrating this technology into evolving airspace systems requires robust testing and close collaboration. Our teams’ integration lets us move faster than typical independent start-ups,” he said.
Aurora’s engineers, based in the U.S. and Switzerland, are leading development with a focus on meeting U.S. and European regulatory standards.
