Oslo has announced the results of its latest shared micromobility tender, with Voi, Ryde and Bolt securing contracts to operate in the city for the next two years.
The decision sees the same three operators remain in the Norwegian capital, but with a significantly expanded fleet and operational area.
Oslo’s total fleet size is set to double to 16,000 e-scooters, while the service area will triple, allowing for wider coverage across the city. This marks a major shift from the previous one-year tender model, providing more stability for operators.
Voi, which has operated in Oslo since 2019, achieved the highest overall score in the evaluation. “We are thrilled to have received renewed trust from the City of Oslo,” said Christina Moe Gjerde, VP Northern Europe at Voi. “This is an important recognition of our long-term work for safe and sustainable micromobility.”
With the expanded fleet, Voi is now pushing for further improvements, including the introduction of night-time services. “We look forward to proving why the city needs an even larger fleet, and why it’s time to introduce night service so more people can choose a climate-friendly way to travel, 24/7,” Gjerde added.
The new contracts take effect from April 1 when Voi will increase its fleet from 2,667 to 5,334 e-scooters, reinforcing Oslo’s status as a leading micromobility city in Europe.
Ryde CEO Tobias Balchen also described the win as particularly meaningful.
“Oslo is a significant tender for the industry with a total fleet of 16,000 vehicles for two years, and the city is known as one of the most attractive in Europe with high fleet utilization figures. For us being headquartered in Oslo it has a special meaning when we Ryde to the office,“ he told Zag Daily.
The expanded fleet and contract length are also expected to boost financial performance.
“With an even better service, we expect this to translate to solid revenue growth and strong financial performance in the market locally,” Balchen added.
