Micromobility giant Lime has joined the UK government’s cycle-to-work scheme to reduce employee commuting costs by up to 47%.
Announced on Cycle to Work day, Lime’s partnership with specialist provider CycleSaver will allow employees to save on monthly minute bundles through the tax benefits of salary sacrifice.
This would mean a 30-minute journey on a Lime e-bike could cost £1.59.
“Not only are e-bike sharing schemes like Lime often the most convenient and efficient way to travel, but they are now some of the most affordable,” CycleSaver CEO Dino Bertolis told Zag Daily.
“UK consumers could save millions of pounds on travel each year by choosing to use bike sharing schemes. This is especially important for lower income groups who spend a disproportionate amount on travel compared to higher-income earners.”
Lime is currently offering two bundles – 500-minutes per month and 1000-minutes per month – which are both offered as flexible monthly subscriptions via CycleSaver. Before tax benefits are accounted for, these bundles will cost the employee £52.99 and £99.99 per month respectively.
In May 2024, 52% of Lime’s trips in London occurred during peak commute hours. Last year, the number of daily cycle trips reached 1.26 million per day in London.
Recent research from employee benefits platform BHN Extras found that 49% of UK consumers can’t afford to buy a bike outright, and 67% said they’d be more likely to cycle if they had support from their employer.
Lime’s bundle offers will be available across its e-bike services in London, Nottingham and Milton Keynes.
