CoMotion launches new mobility startup competition format

Events platform CoMotion has launched a new simplified application process for its annual startup challenges called CoMotion Innovators

The new format means that selected applicants will have free access to all CoMotion events and are put forward in the selection process for its three annual challenges: M2 Challenge at CoMotion MIAMI, Motivate in Vancouver, and The LA New Mobility Challenge at CoMotion LA

Finalists will get to pitch in front of a curated team of investors, VCs and key players from the public and private sectors. They will also be included in the CoMotion startup deck, which is shared with CoMotion’s network of investors, as well as gain access to the platform’s bespoke marketing tool-kit.

“CoMotion’s yearly Innovators programme has one simple goal: to support the best and brightest startups and early-stage companies from across the planet making mobility more sustainable, multimodal and equitable,” John Rossant, CoMotion’s Founder and CEO, told Zag Daily.

Startups could be looking to revolutionise air delivery with drones, make ports and waterways more sustainable, streamline micromobility’s multimodal user experience and more.

The criteria for the selection startup challenge process will be based on the themes for each event and the needs of the local mobility ecosystems. Business model, social impact, and environmental benefits are some of the qualifiers that the jury will consider in their selection process.

In Miami, CoMotion’s M2 Challenge is a civic startup competition, focused on bringing together both cities and innovators from both sides of the Americas to tackle the urgent challenges of urban mobility. Semi-finalists will pitch their innovations to key Miami-Dade and CoMotion MIAMI stakeholders, with the grand prize winner getting to preview a pilot of their solution with Miami-Dade County in Florida.

Brookly-based EV charging startup Itselectric is flourishing after winning the CoMotion LA New Mobility Challenge last November.

The firm announced a $2.2 million pre-seed funding raise earlier this month while on a UK Future of Mobility Innovation Tour, co-hosted with the UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT), which was part of its prize for winning the LA Challenge.

Those interested in applying to CoMotion Innovators have until April 15 2023.
