Micromobility operator Bird has partnered exclusively with cycling retailer Halfords to sell its custom-designed e-bike which is now available in the UK.

Dubbed the Bird Bike, the vehicle will be priced at £1,999, and includes a 250w Bafang rear hub motor, up to 25km/h speed assist, 7-speed Shimano drivetrain, integrated LED lights, has a backlit handlebar dash display and can run for 100km on a single charge.

Available in three colourways, Stealth Black, Gravity Grey and Starling Blue, the Bird Bike also connects via Bluetooth to the Bird app for added security alarm and battery controls.

Founded in 2017, Bird is a leading shared micromobility operator offering hire fleets in more than 350 cities and universities worldwide.

The US-based firm is also involved in the UK-wide e-scooter trials and currently manages fleets in multiple locations including Canterbury and Redditch.

Demand for e-bikes in the UK has increased rapidly in the past few years, with the total number of e-bikes in circulation expected to reach 300 million worldwide by 2023, a 50 per cent increase over 2019.

“The UK is investing heavily in its cycling infrastructure and people are now looking to micro-electric vehicles to replace their petrol-powered trips,” said Brian Buccella, Senior Vice President for Government Partnerships and Consumer Products at Bird.

“The Bird Bike not only offers both new and experienced cyclists the thrill of the ride, but also the safety and technology synonymous with our brand. We are incredibly proud to partner with Halfords to launch Bird Bike in the UK. Their dedication to electric transportation and delivering high-quality service, both in-store and online, aligns perfectly with our values at Bird.”

A buyer for the Halfords e-bike section Rebecca Blewitt added: “We are thrilled to be the exclusive launch partner for the Bird Bike in the UK, which will be available online at Halfords. The new bike is such an innovative design and we can’t wait for our customers to get their hands on one.”
