Salford scooters will get started on Monday

Salford’s e-scooter trial has a go-live date: Monday 26 October. Lime is in the driving seat for this 12-month trial and is poised with a fleet of 300 electric machines.

The trial starts at the University of Salford, connecting its Peel Park and Frederick campuses for the 20,000 students and 2,000 staff who attend. Further phases will connect the university to MediaCityUK before encompassing the city centre and Ordsall.

New for Lime in Salford is its pavement detection technology, which the company will use to educate riders and ban repeat offenders. From what we understand, the feature is retrospective and won’t prevent pavement riding in real time.

Fees are set at £1 to unlock and 15/min to ride. Students will get discounted rates and key workers will benefit from free rides.

Nicola Kane, head of strategic planning, research and innovation at Transport for Greater Manchester said in an official statement: “We know people want to use e-scooters to get about and they can be a stepping stone to encouraging them to use cars less for local journeys – reducing congestion, improving connectivity with public transport hubs and making our air cleaner.”
