Lime invests £20 million to enhance e-bike parking in London

Lime is creating more than 2,500 dedicated parking spaces and boosting its on-street patrol team by 60% as part of a five-point action plan to improve e-bike parking in London.

The £20 million investment is the micromobility giant’s biggest investment on parking improvements to date in any city globally.

It comes as demand for e-bikes has increased at a rate that exceeds the current parking space available in London’s boroughs, leading to overcrowded parking areas and poorly parked e-bikes.

Hal Stevenson, Lime’s Director of Policy for UK and Ireland, told Zag Daily: “It has been incredible to see Londoners’ response to Lime over the past few years. With a 61% increase in Lime users last year, we’re having a significant impact in how London moves, helping to replace car trips, support active travel and achieve the city’s ambitious cycling goals.

“London is leading on a global stage. Over 16 million commuter journeys were taken last year, demonstrating how cities can move away from congestion, improve air quality, reduce carbon emissions, and make streets safer for all. We’re excited about the London Action Plan and our aim is that it will improve our service and make sure all Londoners can get around the city more easily, efficiently, and safely.”

Lime has hired over 100 new on-street team members taking the patrol team to more than 400. The aim is to increase its parking patrol presence at hotspots in the busiest London boroughs at peak periods. The micromobility operator is also making some tech updates, including an improved AI end-trip photo review to block poorly parked vehicles in real time. This spring, Lime will increase its investment in rider education to deter illegal behaviour. £250,000 of this larger investment will focus on improving access to cycling for more Londoners with its Share the Joy fund.
