Dubai to host first-ever electric scooter race in Middle East

The Dubai Sports Council and the Federation for Micromobility and Sport have announced the first e-scooter race to be hosted in the Middle East.

Taking place immediately after COP 28 in December, the new racing series will be the focal point of a major event showcasing the latest developments in sustainable mobility and technology.

A new high performance racing scooter has been specifically developed for the event, the RS-Zero DXB can achieve a top speed of 140 kph and a lean angle of over 58 degrees.

Alex Wurz, President of the Federation for Micromobility and Sport, told Zag Daily: “We are thrilled to bring our new category of racing to Dubai, a city with a clear vision and commitment to mobility innovation.

“We share this vision, it’s at the heart of our mission as a Federation, and through our high performance sport the Dubai Cup will bring this mission and vision to life. We’re immensely grateful to the Dubai Sports Council for their support in the evolution of micromobility as a sport with significant real world relevance.”

Saeed Mohammed Hareb, Secretary General for Dubai Sports Council, said: “The Dubai Electric Scooter Cup will be a showcase for cutting edge e-technology at the pinnacle of e-scooter performance. We’re delighted to be working with the Federation on this project, as a sporting spectacle but also as a source of research and insight into micromobility safety and sustainability.

“We look forward to welcoming international teams, riders and fans to our event experience on the unique downtown street circuit later in the year.”
