Healthcare workers and emergency services staff will get free e-scooter rides in Redditch over the second lockdown period, thanks to Bird.
The scheme actually isn’t new. Bird announced the free rides programme back in April, to tackle the first lockdown. The micromobility operator even lent a flock of scooters to the Red Cross in Italy to help home deliveries of food and medicine.
Of course, Bird wasn’t yet operating in the UK so we didn’t see any of those brilliant moves here. But between the lengthy summer shut-in and this new “circuit-breaker” lockdown, the Redditch e-scooter trial got started, so Bird is simply picking up where it had left off.
Redditch workers will get two 30min free rides every day. All the details are in the blog post linked above. The initiative doesn’t apply to Canterbury, where (for now) only university students and staff can access the scooters.
In the midst of this terrible year, it’s crystal clear that micromobility companies in general (and e-scooter fleet operators in particular) are going the extra mile to keep our communities moving.
