Shared micromobility operator Beryl has launched a training initiative to sharpen e-scooter skills, boost rider confidence and reinforce the importance of responsible riding.

Dubbed the Scoot Happy Tour, the initiative involves the launch of a new website to host online courses as well as free in-person training sessions.

The Scoot Happy website has a quick start guide and a 15-minute course designed to teach users how to ride beryl scooters safely.

These online courses focus on building roadcraft skills and driving awareness on how to share road space with others, including pedestrians and vulnerable road users.

Participants that complete the guide get a free 30-minute journey and those that complete the full course get a free 60-minute journey.

From 1 April, customers can also sign up for in-person training sessions in Norwich, Bournemouth, Poole and the Isle of Wight.

There is either a two-hour ‘Skills’ session run by Bikeability instructors, or a one-hour ‘Tryout’ session taught by Beryl staff that is split into theory and practical lessons.

As an added incentive, Beryl has partnered with cycle helmet manufacturer Dashel to offer ‘Skills’ session participants 30% off their helmets. ‘Tryout’ participants get 10% off the same range.

All event details and instructions on how to sign up are on Eventbrite.

Beryl CEO, Phil Ellis, said: “We believe that safety is paramount, and we put it at the forefront of everything that we do, whether that’s designing schemes, working with local authorities, developing products or helping our users.

“Our Scoot Happy Tour offers a variety of fun and engaging ways for people to boost their safety skills, whether that’s a quick online refresher or a more in-depth personal session with an expert tutor.

“We know that fears over safety can inhibit people from taking up micromobility schemes, so by helping to boost confidence and awareness, we can hopefully help remove some of the barriers.”

Beryl currently operates e-scooter schemes in Bournemouth, Christchurch, Norwich and the Isle of Wight.
