New data from micromobility operator Lime has seen the use of shared e-scooters and e-bikes in London rise during tube closures.
The recent Bank branch closure of the Northern Line resulted in a 113 per cent increase in e-bike rides and a 49 per cent increase in e-scooter rides started at each station affected, Lime reported.
Additionally, Bank recorded a 162 per cent increase in the number of e-bike rides from this station and London Bridge recorded a 136 per cent increase.
Lime is one of three operators that was chosen for the London shared e-scooter trial alongside Dott and TIER, while it also has a fleet of e-bikes available across the city.
“Many made the return to the office earlier this year only to be faced with the closure of the Bank branch,” said Alan Clarke, Senior Director of Policy at Lime for the UK and Ireland.
“With commuters needing alternative ways to travel, we’ve seen significant increases in both Lime e-scooter and e-bike rides starting at underground stations that have been impacted by the suspended service. Lime e-bikes and e-scooters offer a great complement to public transport and it’s great news that this new data shows that many commuters are opting for an active and sustainable travel choice whilst disruption continues.”
