Ford-owned micromobility operator Spin has topped one million shared e-scooter rides in the UK since launching a fleet during 2020.
Spin currently operates about 1,300 rental e-scooters across Milton Keynes and various Essex locations, having taken part in the UK e-scooter trials since August 2020.
To accompany the milestone, the firm also released data from its rider survey which found that 76 per cent of users opt for an e-scooter instead of car.
Furthermore, 41 per cent cited commuting as their primary use for an e-scooter, while 55 per cent use the devices in concert with public transport.
“It’s incredible to see so many residents and visitors embrace this new mode of transport and incorporate it into their day-to-day activities in UK cities and towns,” said Steve Pyer, UK General Manager at Spin.
“The milestone of Spin riders taking more than a million e-scooter rides in Essex and Milton Keynes, especially those that would have otherwise taken by a passenger car brings us and hopefully to the government further evidence of how integral e-scooters are for the future of the UK’s cities and helps accelerate the legislative process later this year.”
The firm recently announced its decision to withdraw from mainland Europe in order to focus on the UK and North America.
