Shared micromobility operator Voi is aiming to become climate positive by 2030, CEO Fredrik Hjelm announced at COP26 on Monday.
The Swedish firm hopes to achieve this without the use of carbon offsetting and has been carbon neutral since January 2020.
To meet this target, Voi will transition to a full electric, zero-emission operations fleet by early 2023, as well as sourcing all of its batteries from Europe within the same time period.
Voi is also working with companies throughout its supply chain, with the goal of its suppliers being powered by renewable energy by 2030.
Alongside this pledge, Voi hopes to replace more than one billion car journeys by 2030, with its global data showing that on average this year 16.3 per cent of Voi trips replaced short car trips.
The operator recently launched an environmental impact dashboard within its app to help riders track the impact of their journeys.
Founded in 2018, Voi is present in more than 70 cities across 11 countries, with 70 million journeys completed on its e-scooters and e-bikes to date.
Speaking at an International Transport Forum event, Hjelm said: “Voi’s e-scooters and e-bikes are already playing a critical role in cities in providing convenient and sustainable alternatives to cars. Climate change presents a serious threat to the liveability of cities around the world and we want to do everything in our power to take action.
“We want to go beyond carbon neutrality through offsets and become a climate-positive company. We’ll do this by implementing new climate measures such as sourcing European-made battery cells and circular vehicles.”
