Micromobility operator Bird has today unveiled its third generation shared e-scooter, which it reports can complete more trips per battery charge than any other model available.
Bird Three, as it has been named, will be rolled out around the world at the beginning of the summer, having been piloted in Berlin and Tel Aviv.
The California-based firm currently has a presence in more than 200 cities and towns across Europe, the US and the Middle East.
According to Bird, the new model is able to complete more trips per battery charge than any other e-scooter on the market, while it ran 60,000 simulated impact tests on the model to improve its durability.
Bird Three is said to have enabled a nearly 400% drop in vehicle damages and a 185% increase in rides per machine in the areas it has been trialled.
It also possesses an elongated wheelbase to provide increased stability on all terrains and an industry-first autonomous emergency braking system.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Bird was set to go public following a merger with Switchback II Corporation.
Chief vehicle officer Scott Rushforth said: “A scooter’s environmental impact is most directly related to its lifespan and its smart battery. That’s why every aspect of Bird Three has been thoughtfully designed and rigorously tested to keep each vehicle safely operating for years.
“We’ve added new features like an automotive-grade dual-sensor throttle, a longer, more stable wheelbase and upgraded dual independent brakes to make Bird Three the best micro-EV for cities’ and riders’ needs.
