Voi, of the pink e-scooters and blitz-like success in winning UK e-scooter trial locations, has today announced three new discount tiers to match embattled Liverpool’s Tier 3 lockdown restrictions.
Under the new scheme, daily passes (usually £10) and monthly passes (£40) will be cut by 75% for NHS workers and emergency services staff, while university students and staff will get 20% off the same passes.
That’s quite some saving, compared to on-street hire fees (£1 to unlock and 20p/min to ride in Liverpool).
Key workers will need to upload proof of eligibility to the app, such as an NHS ID badge, Blue Light card or university ID.
Our take
Discounts Are Good. We’ve already said that once today and we’ll say it again. The caveat, of course, is that operators must make sure that their businesses remain financially viable for the long-term so that they don’t disappear just as residents come to rely on them.
With the rest of the country heading for lockdown later this week, we wouldn’t bet against Voi rolling out similar discounts around the rest of its trial locations. RR
