Norwegian micromobility operator Ryde has launched its shared e-scooter service in three new Swedish cities.
Its entrance into Malmö, Lund, and Örebro brings the operator’s total presence to 16 cities across Sweden and 42 in total across Europe.
For its latest Swedish launches which recently went live, Ryde has deployed its newest e-scooter model: the ‘Ryder v.8’.
“This has several new features and an optimised design to improve user experience and safety,” Ryde CEO Tobias Balchen told Zag Daily. “The foot stand is broader and the geometry is updated which gives a better experience and improved balance when in use.
“For the “bike nerds” we have optimised the so-called trail. This also gives a broader kick-stand which makes the scooter even more stable when parked.”
According to the operator, the Ryder v.8 comes with improved battery technology for longer rides, increased use of recycled materials, and has been designed to withstand varying weather conditions.
Ryde can’t reveal the fleet numbers of its latest launch for sensitivity reasons. However both Malmö and Lund have a fixed quota set by the cities. In Malmö, operators can deploy 700 vehicles each and in Lund it’s 300.
“In both cases we would like to see larger numbers to be able to offer the best service to the city,” Tobias said. “We look forward to bringing the best scooter experience to all three cities, and to good long term relationships with the city officials.”
The operator revealed a 400% increase in EBITDA between 2022 and 2023 which Tobias partly attributed to having a focused operational approach and building a strong position in each market before launching onto the next.
