French mobility provider Free2Move, owned by Stellantis, has partnered with tech platform Invers to install its CloudBoxx solution into its fleets in the U.S.

Free2Move offers a comprehensive range of services, including free-floating car-sharing, short-medium and long-term rentals, subscription services, and parking options.

The CloudBoxx solution is a dedicated sharing telematics unit, connecting the car with the operators IT backend as the basic layer of automated rental.

“Through CloudBoxx, which is supported by our industry-leading managed connectivity, car sharing operators can guarantee instant vehicle unlocks anywhere, anytime,” Bharath Devanathan, Chief Business Officer at Invers, told Zag Daily.

“With an average reaction time of 450ms, end customers get to enjoy the fastest and most convenient shared mobility experience available.”

Invers has been focusing on car sharing technology for more than 30 years, taking care of its clients business needs. Besides offering the fastest access for customers, CloudBoxx also allows real-time data for operations teams to assist with fleet management and damage management.

Free2Move started car sharing in Washington in 2019, expanding into Portland in 2021 and later into Denver, Columbus and Austin. Following the acquisition of Share Now in 2022, the company focused on integrating Share Now’s technology into its systems. This included enhancing the customer-facing app and upgrading back-end technology for real-time fleet management and efficient operational processes like damage management. Additionally, the team worked to improve vehicle availability and services, addressing technology and vehicle-management issues. In early 2024, Free2Move withdrew its fleet of mostly Jeep Renegades from all U.S. cities except Washington, D.C., to reset its technology and operations systems.

Free2Move currently has operations available in 16 cities, including Berlin, Munich, Paris, Rome, and Washington, D.C, and believes that the convenience of free-floating car rentals in urban areas can significantly drive its success.

In 2025, the company aims to expand further by increasing its fleet from around 10,000 to 15,000 vehicles and extend its services to more cities in Europe and the US.
