Beryl celebrates double milestone on Bike Week

UK micromobility operator Beryl is celebrating a double milestone today with its Hereford scheme hitting the one million kilometre mark and its Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole scheme reaching two million journeys.

The landmark coincides with the start of Bike Week 2024, an annual event held to raise awareness of cycling and all the positive impacts it can have.

Beryl has calculated that the 425,000 journeys undertaken in Hereford since the scheme launched in July 2019 have had a significant impact on regional air quality, saving nearly 40 tonnes of carbon emissions. This is the equivalent of nearly 20,000 litres of petrol consumption.

The BCP scheme, which launched on 17 June 2019, has passed seven million kilometres – the equivalent of almost 175 trips around the Earth. Julian McLaughlin, Director for Growth and Infrastructure at BCP Council, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the performance of our bike and e-scooter share scheme, with demand far exceeding expectations.”

Commenting on the milestones, Beryl CEO and co-founder Phil Ellis, told Zag Daily: “We work hard alongside our local authority partners to ensure our shared schemes are as user friendly as possible. When a scheme is popular and is able to pass significant milestones such as these, we see it as a testament to our teamwork, planning and experience.

“Events such as Bike Week, which celebrate all those who cycle and encourage and enable more cycling, play an important role in encouraging the more widespread adoption of sustainable transport habits. We will always try to support these events where possible as we know that, when more people cycle, we all become happier, healthier, greener and more connected.”
