The charity London Road Safety Council (LRSC) has announced a partnership with shared micromobility company Tier to cooperate on safety issues and sponsor the institution’s website.
LRSC will have a seat on Tier’s UK Safety Board to help ensure safety for all road users is prioritised in the company’s future endeavors.
“The TIER UK Safety Board plays an instrumental role in ensuring our service is operating as safely as possible for our customers as well as pedestrians and other road users,” Georgia Heathman, Tier’s Senior Public Policy Manager, UK & Ireland, told Zag Daily.
Heathman said the board released ten recommendations for the e-scooter sector in its first year, ranging from calling for a 12.5mph speed limit across private and shared models, to the development of a universal acoustic vehicle alert for e-scooters.
“The London Road Safety Council brings additional support in ensuring we operate safely in one of the largest and most complex urban areas in Europe,” said Heathman.
The board is composed of senior independent experts in road safety, accessibility, and visual impairment.
In quarterly meetings, it scrutinises Tier’s approach to safe and responsible operations and aims to raise the bar for safety standards across the entire e-scooter sector.
“We welcome this partnership as an opportunity to work with Tier to ensure safety is always at the forefront of its operations – helping to protect all road users,” said Alderman Alison Gowman, chair of the London Road Safety Council.
Under the new partnership since January 1st, Tier will sponsor the London Road Safety Council website.
