Superpedestrian and Nottingham City Council has announced that the popular e-scooter service will run until May 2024.
The trial in the city of Nottingham has racked up more than two million rides since it began in October 2020, which is in the top five highest ridership rates in the UK.
Superpedestrian has been focused on filling gaps in public transport, installing parking stations near transport hubs, and integrating with the Nottingham City Transport app (NCTX).
Zag Daily asked Superpedestrian’s UK and Ireland Policy Director Jean Andrews where the operator will be focusing its efforts in 2023.
“Next year we will be working with Nottingham City Council to tackle pavement riding as we roll out our patented new technology to address this issue, as well as on a range of rider education focussed events to promote safe riding and encourage positive rider behaviour.
“We will also focus on attracting more women and older people to use our service in Nottingham to benefit from the convenience that e-scooters offer, as well as continuing to engage with disability groups and community groups to address any issues.”
Nottingham’s shared e-scooter scheme was originally operated by Wind UK, which was then acquired by Superpedestrian in 2021.
“It’s good news that the e-scooter trial will continue to run until Spring 2024,” said Nottingham City Councillor, Audra Wynter.
“We are continuing to listen to feedback, and make improvements along with our partners at Superpedestrian, to inform a future scheme if e-scooters are rolled out nationwide. I want to thank everyone who continues to give us feedback to help us create a safe future for e-scooters in the UK.”
Across England, riders have now made approximately 30 million journeys since the shared e-scooter trials began in summer 2020, according to Zag’s latest data research.
