Micromobility operator Tier will add 120 new e-bikes across its shared scheme in Fingal, Ireland by the end of November expanding its fleet to more than 300.
The company has also grown its operating area to cover the whole of Fingal, from Balbriggan to Howth.
Launched in June this year, Fingal residents have cycled over 2,500 hours on Tier e-bikes, with an average trip distance of 4.5km. This is a much further distance than the majority of towns and cities that the company operates in.
Tier’s Ireland Country Manager Peadar Golden told Zag Daily that a free-flow of information with Fingal County Council has helped the company to effectively react to the demand across the county. “This close collaboration has let us capitalise on the great appetite for micromobility that we have seen across Fingal.”
Golden said Ireland is well positioned to take advantage of micromobility and has adopted a cautious approach, with local and national leadership taking their time to learn from the successes and challenges other countries have faced.
“Sustainability is at the forefront of the public consciousness and there are many areas where alternatives to driving are few in number. We feel we can make a real change in Ireland and our experience in Fingal supports this.”
David Storey, Director of Environment, Climate Action and Active Travel for Fingal County Council, added: “Fingal residents and visitors have been enjoying this low carbon, convenient and affordable Active Travel option since it arrived earlier this year and we expect to see lots more people give Tier e-bikes a try in the coming weeks as their numbers increase.”
