ReTyre raises €7m to scale clean tyre production

Norwegian manufacturer reTyre has raised €7 million to scale its patented clean tyre manufacturing technology.

ReTyre’s injection-moulding process enables fully automated, dust-free tyre production. The company says the technology can cut carbon emissions from bike tyre manufacturing by up to 80% while enabling 100% recyclability.

The funding round was led by Hatch Blue’s Blue Revolution Fund, with participation from Fundracer and existing investors. ReTyre will use the capital to install its first fully automated production cell in Norway, followed by the launch of a second facility in Asia later this year as the company moves towards profitability.

“Too often, ‘clean’ solutions come at a higher cost,” Fundracer Managing Partner René Wiertz told Zag Daily. “What we like about reTyre is that they break this trade-off: they produce better-performing tyres with dramatically lower CO₂ emissions at a cost comparable to conventional rubber tyres made in China. That combination of performance, sustainability and economics is truly disruptive.”

Like the automotive industry, the bicycle industry relies on complex supply chains with tyres often manufactured in different regions or countries before being shipped to the final assembly plant. ReTyre states that its automated, dust-free process enables clean tyre production to be located close to OEM assembly lines, reducing transport emissions and logistics costs.

The investment comes as reTyre partners with Italian bicycle manufacturer Vittoria to co-develop and commercialise high-performance bike tyres based on its proprietary injection-moulding technology.

After more than a decade of R&D, reTyre CEO and co-founder Paul Magne Amundsen said the company is proud to “disrupt” the tyre industry with technology that delivers “a new level of performance” while enabling “true circularity” in tyre manufacturing.

The latest raise follows reTyre’s unveiling in 2024 of what it claimed was the world’s first carbon-neutral tyre, made entirely from reclaimed materials to offset the product’s environmental impact.
